Javelin

The javelin throw is an athletic throwing event, as part of track and field, where a javelin is thrown for distance. A javelin is a spear-like object made of metal, fiberglass for carbon fiber. Because of the potential danger of this particular event, many schools do not have this in their track and field events. On the event that they do, the rules require a certain length and diameter of a high school javelin before it can be used.

The competitors take three throws, and then the top eight take another three throws. The best legal throw is recorded and the one with the longest throw is the winner. The measurement for javelin throws is measured down to the nearest centimeter or foot and inch depending on what country the event is taking place. If the throw lands flat on the ground, it is a foul throw, but if it lands on the point, it is measured from this point.
